My Credentials and Integrity - Your Vote Matters

With the Vote just around the corner, I am asking for your vote for a Commissioners seat on the Board of Public Works.

My opponent, Paul Shea, has been heavily campaigning on what he perceives are my character flaws rather than looking at the credentials I would bring to the table.  Here are just a few.

·      I am a degreed Mechanical Engineer that attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute. This Board of Public Works handles city infrastructure including sewer, landfill, road and parks. This is a good fit for my background.

·      I have worked hard to open public records in City Hall.

·      As a citizen, I pushed for open public meetings for the Construction project for the new DPW Office Facility. The meetings are now open to the public.

·      I discovered serious problems in the assessing office and worked for changes to create better equity in property assessments.

·      I assisted over 80 property owners last year with abatements and those owners collectively received over $150,000 in property tax savings.

Anyone who has run an organization of any size knows that leading and managing is not a popularity contest.  Running organizations with honesty and integrity means that you are capable of recognizing that most employees do an honest day's work for an honest day's pay.  And also, there are exceptional employees that go above and beyond.  These employees, at least in a system that promotes based on merit, represent the next generation of managers and leaders.  But there are always a few bad apples.  Allowing them to remain is destructive to the organization and even to themselves.

Good leadership recognizes that openly addressing problems is necessary to create a strong government. I value citizen input that identifies problems and asks for corrective action. Addressing issues should never result in character attacks. Our current City leadership does not demonstrate the integrity to do what is right.

There are two open seats for DPW Commissioner; please vote for Tracy Pappas. She has been a dedicated public servant of the highest integrity who never has to be reminded of who she serves – You. She is a terrific public servant role model and I would be honored to work with her. Please visit www.good-gov.org

Finally, there is an important ballot question (#2) to change the appointment of the Police Commissioners. I am strongly recommending a NO vote and have door-to-door campaigned on this issue. Please visit www.citizensforabetternashua.com for a history of this issue.
